Pilar Santamaría

Biologist and visual artist, with a Master’s degree in Visual and Plastic Arts and a PhD candidate in Social and Human Sciences. She is interested in researching, creating, and fostering dialogue among diverse forms of knowledge, ways of making, and ways of inhabiting socio-ecosystems (humans and other beings). She is passionate about developing interdisciplinary projects within contexts of reflection and creativity. Her work focuses on learning about relationships among organisms, moving between biology, the history of peoples, and different media to explore the interdependence of Science, Art, and Life. She has teaching experience in electronic arts. She is an outstanding communicator with a deep commitment to the construction of meaning. In her projects, one may encounter large circuits of interactive potato batteries, cultivated flora of human skin, or spaces that encourage reconnection between humans and other species.
